When preparing to start your session with your horse whether its a training session or just to brush him off remember that every second you are in each others presence you are training him. Do you have to bribe your horse to catch him? If you can't catch your horse easily without a bucket of grain, then your horse isn't truly with you. This may take you some time if this is not part of your routine. You need to remember that you are his leader and that he is not your leader. What do other horses do in a herd setting when there is a disturbance? They look to the leader, the dominant horse in the herd. You need to remember when you enter that herd or pasture depending on how many horses you have that you are the leader. Set things up so that it becomes your horses idea to catch you instead of you catching your horse.
(One hint, it starts with turning your horse loose. Does your horse leave you when you turn him loose? Or do you leave your horse?)
Remember, true horsemen and horsewomen worry about training themselves more than their horse,
